IDENTIFICATION CARDS
AND
DEERS PRE-ENROLLMENT

Making sure our family members are pre-enrolled in DEERS and receive an ID Card is important. It is the best way to make sure that our families are well cared for and self-reliant. The ID cards give them access to many privileges and pre-enrolling them in DEERS gives them medical coverage when the soldier is mobilized. Usually, all it takes to get family members ID cards and pre-enrolled in DEERS is birth certificates for the children or a marriage license for the spouse. Take the documents and your dependents to the nearest RAPIDS terminal to get their ID cards and pre-enrolled in DEERS in a short time! To get a new ID card if you are an enlisted person requires that you take a copy of your current enlistment contract with you.

A Department of Defense-wide cross-service agreement allows any service (Navy, Air Force, Marines, etc.) to issue ID cards and pre-enroll family members in DEERS. To find out the nearest RAPIDS terminal to you, go to http://www.dmdc.osd.mil/rsl/ This site allows you to find RAPIDS sites by city, state, zip code, or by site name. The zip code search is very helpful. Simply enter your zip code, press the search button, and you will get the three nearest RAPIDS terminals to that zip code. Call the phone number at the site selected fo find out the operating hours and to get a final determination on the documents you need to bring and the specific privileges your family is entitled to.

Remember, taking care of your family is your responsibility! One of the best ways to care for them is to get them their ID cards and pre-enrolling them in DEERS. If you need additional information, please call your unit.
