Introduction to the MunchkinMade Website

One of the factors inherent in all the items I offer for sale is that because of the Warner Brothers copyright on the movie images, I have moved away from the characters in the film. Because of practical cost considerations I have gone back to the roots of the Wizard of Oz, which of course was born through the genius of the man who created the first book, L. Frank Baum. In the first Wizard of Oz book Frank Baum had an illustrator that produced the first artistic representations that pictorially told us about Baum's characters.

This year I read a book by Michael Patrick Hearn that was not only wonderful but also I learned so much about Oz and the cradle it was born in and grew up in. The book is called The Annotated Wizard of Oz. I want to also do honor to the man that is really responsible for Oz. This of course is not designed to take anything away from what MGM created in its artistic representation of Oz. It was indeed a masterpiece that will out live us all. However, I do want to celebrate how this story began. There is an intrinsic argument that always ensues when a film that was first a book later becomes a film. Which one is better goes the argument? A good case can be made for both sides and I suppose whichever entertainment medium is your favorite will somewhat skewer your preference on the matter.

Both mediums take a unique talent and both are very different utilizing different skills to produce a winner in the eye of the public. I really got my cart before the horse as I suspect is the case with many people today. I was barely aware of the importance of the book and the life of L. Frank Baum until the past few years being active again within the Ozzy world. I have come to enjoy and extol both the book and the film. So here, for those of you who have never been introduced to the original world of the Wizard of Oz, are all the images I could find of William Wallace Denslow, the Oz illustrator, and the wonderful world of Oz. These images from the books about Oz are throughout my new personal collection of many of the MunchkinMade items you'll see on this site with that trademark.

I am sure as you look at these pictures you will have no problem identifying the characters, as you know them. Enjoy them and add them to your closet of good feelings about the Wizard of Oz. L. Frank Baum's first book on Oz was published over 100 years ago. It is eternal, timeless, and will endure as long as man continues to pass on to his young these wonderful stories that are so worth the telling.

Ozzily yours,
