COOKING IN OZ

Elaine Willingham and Steve Cox

Kitchen Wizardry and a Century of Marvels
From America's Favorite Tale

This is a genuinely fun book. Most of the extant cast and crew, many children, and grandchildren--- yes even great grandchildren, are represented in this unusual but delightful cookbook. Many of the contributors are peripherally related to Oz. Those who hosted the television broadcasts of Oz, Frank Baum descendants and other friends of Oz like Mickey Rooney are but a few of the mix of cooks represented in the food fest in Cooking in Oz

The recipes are a microcosm of mostly American, Mexican, and European fare. Like putting on your best clothes for a special occasion, these are the best and favorite recipes of all concerned. This book is a "who's who" of Oz, a gastronomical feast on par with "Betty Crocker."

I had to smile, enjoying the creative names for some of the recipes: Glinda's "Good" Potato Salad, Kansas Fritters, Scarecrow Corn Bread, Auntie M&M's Cookies, and how about some Oil Can Marinade. I haven't decided yet if the Oz recipes, or the Oz information, and wonderful photo's are the most fun. This is a sweet concoction of entertainment mixed well with Oz information and delicious trivia.

I would be totally remiss if I did not mention the Forward in the book by Munchkin, Margaret Pelligrini. I have had the privilege of meeting Margaret and she is already one of my favorites. Margaret is extremely smart and very straightforward. She would make a great CEO of a company. Her anecdotes are always among the most amusing about Oz. The Forward was written with an in depth knowledge about Oz and great warmth, not withstanding her love of food that is more than warm.

Elaine Willingham is a long time fan of Oz and runs a web site with over 200 pages of information and collectable Oz merchandise.

Steve Cox is the author of several books and the quintessential expert on the Oz Munchkin's with his book, The Munchkins of Oz.

Steve Cox authored TV Guides special edition on Oz and the Munchkins in their July 1, 2000, issue. This was a four magazine collectors edition.
